Intelligence and Technology

 

 

DIVISION

The Sandy Springs Police Department’s Intelligence and Technology Division comprises the Criminal Intelligence Unit, the Technology and Crime Scene Investigation Unit, the Records Unit , and the GCIC Unit.

Criminal Intelligence Unit

The Criminal Intelligence Unit is responsible for the identification of crime trends, series, and patterns for the deployment of resources. The unit also utilizes data analysis and statistics to determine hot spots and provide link analysis and case assistance for investigations.

Technology and Crime Scene Unit

The Technology Unit it is responsible for overseeing the department-issued technology equipment and applications, including radios, body-worn cameras, in-car cameras and laptops, in addition to implementing and maintaining software applications. The Technology Unit includes Crime Scene Investigators, who are responsible for crime scene investigations, digital forensics, as well as evidence recovery and processing.

Records Unit

The Records Unit includes both Records and Permits. Records is responsible for the dissemination of police reports, overseeing the department’s Records Management System (RMS), and completing open records requests. Permits is responsible for permit applications and fingerprints.

GCIC Unit

Under the supervision of the GCIC TAC, this individual provides GCIC data entry, clerical, and records maintenance support.   In compliance with applicable GCIC regulations, enters data including stolen or lost property, vehicles, missing person, guns and active City and State warrants into the GCIC/NCIC system.   In addition to entries, GCIC specialists also perform monthly validations.  This is a highly sensitive position and conforms to the requirements overseen by the GBI/FBI.
